Antique Imperial German Model 1889 Sword & Scabbard w/ Chinese Dragon Cartouche.
This sword and scabbard March exactly to other Imperial German Model 1889 swords that I have researched. The previous owner had wrapped the hilt in blue painters tape, I believe in an attempt to protect the black Bakelite grip, but I have unwrapped it in order to photograph it. The sword includes a half basket steel guard w/ Chinese dragon cartouche and both the sword and the scabbard have the #19871 marked on them.
Overall weight is 2lbs 6oz. The scabbard itself weighs 15 oz. It measures 38.5” long when in the scabbard and the sword itself is 37” long with a 6” handle. This item is very rusty and needs to be cleaned properly.
